Churchill's Tea Room & Shop was founded by Kathleen Kern and her family.
Kathleen first came to the United States from London, England to visit with family that had moved here from Ireland. (Her mother is English and her father is Irish.)
Kathleen Kern created Churchill's Tea Room & Shop in 2003. Introducing the British Afternoon Tea and a tea menu of over 100 teas from around the world to Cincinnati. In addition, specializing in selling products imported from England, Ireland, Scotland & Wales.
She writes:
To start Churchill's I visited manufacturers across England and Ireland to see new items being made first hand. I absolutely loved watching the craftsmen at work.
This also allowed me to visit County Mayo, Ireland where my dad is from. Westport is a beautiful city surrounded by mountains and the sea. The farm where he grew up is still there and owned by a cousin. I found a number of lovely items here as well and as always, I was amazed by the hospitality of the people I met.
Of course one of the things that stood out about the culture was the tradition of taking tea. We drink tea everyday at home, but always have to order something else at a restaurant, because we can never get tea served with the great taste it is meant to have. So when I had the idea for Churchill’s, it was easy to make the decision that tea was something I would love to work with. I wanted more people to enjoy tea the way my family does, and be able to serve it properly. Tea is more than just a beverage; it is a way of life. Everything else fell into place after that first decision as I realized how many wonderful things England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales have to offer. Tea, Fine China, Jewelry, Kilts, Tartan, and British foods are only the beginning."
